Agentic AI Seminar Highlights: Practical AI for SMEs

September 16, 2026

In this blog we will discover how Microsoft Copilot and Agentic AI are helping businesses improve productivity, automate processes and unlock growth. We also share some of the key takeaways from our AI journey so far.

Key Lessons from the CSUK Agentic AI Seminar

Artificial Intelligence is no longer something businesses are discussing for the future. Already today, it  is helping organisations reduce administration, improve productivity, automate processes and make better decisions.

At our recent Agentic AI Seminar, we shared our own journey with Microsoft Copilot, AI automation and business agents. Rather than focusing on theory, we demonstrated real-world examples of how we are using AI across our business. And in particular, the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

One message stood out above everything else:

The most successful organisations don’t simply use AI. They leverage AI.

Increasingly, AI handles repetitive tasks and frees employees to focus on quality, judgement and decision-making. Ultimately, AI works alongside people as an assistant, not as a replacement.

Understanding Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft’s business AI assistant, designed to work securely within Microsoft 365. Rather than relying solely on information from the internet, Copilot can work with your organisation’s approved information, including:

  • Emails
  • Teams conversations
  • Documents
  • Meeting notes and transcripts
  • SharePoint files
  • Business systems connected through approved integrations

In practice, Copilot operates within your existing Microsoft 365 environment. As a result, it respects the same permissions, security controls and compliance policies that already protect your business data.

For many organisations, Copilot is becoming the easiest way to reduce administrative workload while enabling employees to focus on higher-value work.

What Is Agentic AI?

People frequently ask what the difference is between Copilot and Agentic AI.

Most importantly, Agentic AI represents the next stage in the evolution of business AI. Typically, most AI tools respond to a question and provide an answer. Agentic AI goes further.

Typically, most AI tools that respond to a single prompt, Agentic AI works towards a goal. In practice, Agentic AI can create a plan, gather information, use approved tools and systems, complete multiple steps. Furthermore, it can also review progress and adapt its approach where required. Think of it as moving from asking an assistant for information, to delegating a complete piece of work.

Just like Copilot, the Agentic AI technology is controlled through permissions, governance policies and human approval checkpoints. Thus ensuring that organisations remain in control.

Practical AI Lessons for SME Businesses

1. Ask Whether AI Can Help?

First, based on our own AI journey, we always have one clear question that we ask:

If a task takes more than 15 minutes, can AI help?

In general, repetitive tasks can often be speeded up with Agentic AI. However, if the task appears too large or complex, break it down into smaller pieces and let AI assist with individual stages.

2. Create Meeting Outputs Faster

Across organisations, teams can spend hours converting meeting notes into project documentation, proposals, action plans and reports.  We demonstrated how AI can take meeting transcripts and quickly create structured summaries and project scope documents.

People still review and approve the outcome, but AI dramatically reduces the time spent on first drafts. As a result, teams can focus on delivery rather than administration.

3. Analyse Your Business Data

Although business leaders know that valuable information exists within their company systems, they frequently struggle to extract it quickly.

Modern AI tools can analyse information, identify trends and create reports using straightforward natural language questions. As a result, users can focus on understanding the results and acting on them, rather than having to build complex queries manually.

From our own experience, we know that businesses that learn how to use AI-driven data analysis effectively, can make faster and more informed decisions.

4. Improve Customer Service with AI

Firstly, it is important to say, that in our case, this is not about removing the human element from the Help Desk. At CSUK, we have explored ways AI can automatically interpret incoming information, and assist our service desk teams in handling support requests more effectively. We are not looking for AI to replace them, rather empower them.

For example, we have found that Agentic AI and other AI tools can support the service team by helping to:

  • Prioritise support requests
  • Suggest relevant knowledge articles
  • Identify recurring issues
  • Improve response times
  • Increase consistency

The result is better service delivery and more time for engineers to focus on solving customer problems.

5. Automate Routine Business Processes

Some of the biggest productivity gains come from automating repetitive admin tasks. Typically, Agentic AI can support processes such as:

  • Form processing
  • Report generation
  • Document creation
  • Data filing
  • Notifications and alerts
  • Internal workflows

Over time, even relatively small automations can create significant savings when multiplied across a business.

6. Build AI Agents for Business Knowledge

A particularly exciting development is the ability to build AI agents that understand your business.

These agents can help employees find information from:

  • Company documentation
  • Policies and procedures
  • Knowledge bases
  • Historical support records
  • SharePoint and Teams content

As a result, employees no longer need to search through multiple systems. By posing one question to an agent, they quickly receive accurate answers, and most importantly, from your approved business knowledge sources.

The Importance of Data, Context and Governance

A key lesson from our AI journey is that technology alone does not create value. Instead, Agentic AI performs best when it understands your business context.

Give AI the Right Business Context

Describe fully the business environment in which you operate. This may include, for example, such information as:

  • Industry language
  • Company terminology
  • Internal procedures
  • Business systems
  • Customer information
  • Historical knowledge

It is important to provide AI with access to relevant information through approved connectors and knowledge sources, such as your Sharepoint site. This helps to generate more useful, accurate and valuable results.

Security Should Come First

Understandably, we have found that a common concern among business leaders is whether AI can be used securely.

Copilot and Agentic AI have been designed to work within existing Microsoft 365 security controls. Therefore, users can only access information that they have permission to see. This helps to ensure that organisations retain control, based on their fundamental governance and compliance tools.

Use Governance to Build Confidence

Before introducing AI into a business, organisations should ensure that:

  • Data permissions are reviewed and updated
  • Information is properly organised
  • Governance policies are documented
  • Users understand appropriate AI usage

To put it another way, good governance is not a barrier to AI success. Indeed, it is good governance is what enables organisations to scale AI with confidence.

Starting Your AI Journey

Some organisations often believe they need a large AI strategy before they can begin. In reality, however, the most successful organisations start small. Above all, we recommend that you follow these practical AI guidelines.

1. Begin with a Real Business Problem

First and foremost, focus on a process that consumes time, causes frustration, and/or creates inconsistency.

2. Test One Practical Use Case

Next, choose one area where AI can provide measurable value.

3. Measure The Results

Then, track improvements in productivity, efficiency and user experience.

4. Learn and Refine Before You Scale

After that, learn, refine and update as you progress. Remember that learning is an important part of the process. There is no guarantee that every experiment will succeed first time. In practice, several iterations may be needed before you perfect your agent.

5. Expand What Works

Finally, expand successful use cases across the organisation.

The points are: (1) “Leverage, don’t just use” with the message that AI drafts but people must verify; (2) “Ask before you start” encouraging users to consider whether a task can be leveraged with Copilot; (3) “Break down complexity” by splitting complex tasks into smaller prompts; and (4) “Small tasks add up” highlighting that everyday time savings create meaningful capacity gains.
